Omega Pharma was a pharmaceutical company from Belgium . The company was founded in 1987 by Marc Coucke and Yvan Vindevogel, former students of Ghent University . The company employed around 2,000 people (2012) and was headquartered in Nazareth , Belgium. The company was taken over by Perrigo in 2014 .

Expansion in Europe

In 2001 Omega Pharma took over Deutsche Chefaro Pharma GmbH and Paracelsia Pharma GmbH, both based in Waltrop .

At the end of June 2004, Omega Pharma acquired a portfolio of over-the-counter preparations and personal care products for EUR 135 million (approx. USD 163 million) from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Leading brands in the portfolio include a. Angstrom, Buttercup, Claire Fisher, Cyklokapron, Eau Precieuse, Fenuril, Lyclear, Restivoil, TCP, and Trofodermin.

In March 2012, Omega Pharma announced the acquisition of a portfolio of over-the-counter medicines and nutritional supplements from the UK pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline . The purchase price totaled 470 million euros. The OTC portfolio includes the Abtei brand food supplements, which are particularly well-known in Germany, as well as the pain preparations Solpadeine, the stomach remedy Zantac, the sleeping pill Nytol and the antiallergic Beconase. At the same time, Omega Pharma took over the GlaxoSmithKline production facility in Herrenberg near Stuttgart, where most of these products are manufactured.

On November 6, 2014, Marc Coucke announced the acquisition of Omega Pharma by Perrigo on Twitter . The purchase price is expected to be € 3.6 billion.

Sponsorship

The company advertised the “Davitamon” brand in cycling from 2003 to 2004 as a co-sponsor of the Quick Step-Davitamon team and from 2005 to 2006 as the main sponsor of the Davitamon-Lotto team . They continue to sponsor, but for other brands. So the team started in the 2007 season under the name Predictor-Lotto . Omega Pharma sells pregnancy tests under the “Predictor” brand. From 2008 to 2010 the team ran under the name Silence-Lotto , which advertised the “Silence” brand, an anti-snoring product. In 2010 and 2011 the company advertised the entire Omega Pharma Group under the name “ Omega Pharma Lotto ”. After separating from the Belgian lottery company, Omega Pharma supported the Omega Pharma-Quickstep team , which was previously called Quick Step Cycling Team .
