On-demand streaming

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With on-demand streaming , data stored on a server is transmitted to a client over the network. The client can pause, fast-forward and rewind playback. The data is pre- stored in a media buffer on the client side .

The client can start the stream while the data is being transferred or before the entire file has been transferred. Here, playback delay plays a role, which means that control commands should be executed within 1 to 10 seconds.
