Onur Özkaya

Onur Özkaya (* 1980 in Ankara ) is a Turkish double bass player living in Germany .

Career

Özkaya began studying his instrument at the age of 12 at the “Municipal Conservatory” in his hometown with Tahir Sümer . From 2002 he was in the master class with Klaus Trumpf for three years and joined the Munich Philharmonic . From 2003 he also played in other renowned orchestras, such as the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under the direction of Claudio Abbado . In 2006 Özkaya was accepted as solo double bass player in the Munich Chamber Orchestra .

Teachers Özkayas were next to Sümer and Trumpf, Slawomir Grenda and Alois Posch during and after his studies .

  • 1st Prize at the National Rotary Club Competition for Young Talent 1996 (Turkey)
  • 1st prize at the 47th European Youth Chamber Music Competition (Belgium)
  • 1st prize at the International Gregora Double Bass Competition in Kromeriz (Czech Republic)
  • Special prize at the 2nd International JM Sperger Competition in Michelstein 2002 (Germany)
  • 2nd prize at the International String Competition in San Bartolomeo 2003 (Italy)
  • 3rd Prize at the International Valentino Bucchi Double Bass Competition in Rome 2005.

In the ensemble

  • European Culture Prize in Lucerne 2003 (Switzerland, with Bassonia Amorosa)
