Operation Medusa is the name of an offensive led by Canadian forces by NATO and the Afghan armed forces , which was carried out from September 2 to 17, 2006 in Afghanistan against the Taliban .

The reason for the offensive was the strong resistance that NATO unexpectedly met when it took command of the troops stationed in Afghanistan.

The operation was concentrated in the Panjwai District area . The area is near Kandahar . A total of 200 Taliban fighters, twelve NATO soldiers of Canadian origin and one NATO soldier each of Dutch and American origin were killed. 14 British soldiers were killed in a plane crash as part of reconnaissance and supply activities.

It was the first real use of the new self-propelled howitzer 2000 under combat conditions . She served in the Dutch army.

Operation Mountain Fury followed Operation Medusa .
