The Oratorienchor Köln e. V. is a German choir based in Cologne .
The choir was founded in 1957 by Gerhard Bork as a choir community in the Evangelical City Church Association. At that time, the choir consisted mainly of church musicians , budding church musicians and lay people. One focus of the choir was the maintenance of the choral works of Johann Sebastian Bach . The first performance of the oratorio Paulus by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy at the Cologne Opera in 1965 since it was ostracized by the National Socialists had a special significance for Cologne's cultural life . In 1969 Elias was performed in Gürzenich in Cologne. Further accents of the choir were the first performance of the Creed by Günter Raphael in 1958 , the 1959 Christmas picture oratorio by Heinz Werner Zimmermann and in 1975 the German first performance of the Requiem by Camille Saint-Saëns in St. Peter (Cologne) . After Gerhard Bork left for reasons of age, Wolfgang Karius took over as choir director in 1981 . From 1982 to 1986 Paul Nancekievill directed the choir. From 1986 to summer 2018 Andreas Meisner was the musical director. In 1989 the name was changed to the Oratorienchor Köln in the Evangelical City Church Association . Guest appearances have taken the choir to the Flanders Festival , to the Madeleine Church in Paris, to Romania and to Liverpool Cathedral .
