Orde Baru , also Order Baru , “New Order” , is a term coined by the Indonesian President Suharto , which was intended to distinguish his politics from the political concept Nasakom of his predecessor Sukarno . Orde Baru is used in recent Indonesian history as a synonym for Suharto's reign from 1966 to 1998, which was marked by human rights violations, but also by economic upswing after the attempted coup in 1965 and the subsequent massacre by the military .
