Organization X

The organization X ( Greek Οργάνωση Χ , after the Greek letter Chi ) was during the German occupation of Greece by Colonel Georgios Grivas founded right-wing organization.

Grivas referred to Organization X as a resistance organization . However, it did not play a major role in the fight against the German occupation. She is said to have given information about German positions and troop movements to the British High Command in Cairo . When the German Wehrmacht withdrew, the group was armed by the British and also took over weapons that the Germans had left behind when they withdrew. With this she took up the fight against the communist resistance movement EAM / ELAS .

During the December fighting in Athens, the organization fought, together with the security battalions and police forces, on December 4, 1944 in the area of the Thisions (Theseions) and in the Makrigiannis district against units of the ELAS. The fight was costly for both sides.

The role of Organization X is politically and historically controversial to this day. The political right sees it as a patriotic organization that supported the resistance and saved Athens from the Communist takeover. After the Greek Civil War , it was officially recognized as a resistance organization. In contrast, it is viewed by the left as a " fascist " organization and accused of collaborating with the occupiers.
