Local road in a residential area

In general usage, a local street is a street within a built -up area that is characterized by general, local traffic. Local roads are primarily used for development and residence . A more general term is the inner-city street - a street within a built-up area regardless of its purpose.

In Germany, the local street is also a legally defined street category that belongs to the group of local streets . A local road is a municipal road within a built -up area or a building area specified in the development plan. The corresponding counter-term is community connecting road for a community road outside a built-up area. The construction and maintenance of municipal roads ( road construction load ) is carried out by the municipality. The legal basis is state road laws , such as in Baden-Württemberg Section 3 II No. 2 of the Baden-Württemberg Roads Act (StrG BW). Local roads do not include the through-roads of federal , state and district roads .

In Austria and Switzerland, the term “local road” is not used as a legally defined road category.
