Osaragi Jirō Prize

The Osaragi Jirō Prize ( Japanese 大佛 次郎 賞 , Osaragi Jirō Shō ) is a literary prize that is awarded annually by the Asahi Shimbun . The prize is awarded in memory of the writer Osaragi Jirō for novels, non-fictional and historical texts. The award is given to outstanding and comparative prose texts on history, intellectual history and culture. The prize was established in 1973, the year the writer died, and awarded from the following year. The winners will be awarded a medal and prize money of 2 million yen.

In 2001, the Asahi Shimbun also set up the Osaragi Jirō Critics' Prize ( 大佛 次郎 論壇 賞 , Osaragi Jirō rondanshō ).
