Osiris is a scientific journal for the history of science . It appears annually and is published by the University of Chicago . It was founded in 1936 by George Sarton and is an official journal of the History of Science Society (HSS). No issues appeared between 1969 and 1984; In 1985, the HSS resumed publication in a second series.

While the quarterly sister magazine Isis , also the official journal of the HSS, publishes a wide range of articles on the history of the natural sciences , medicine and technology and their significance in terms of cultural history, the Osiris focuses on particularly significant aspects from these areas. More recent editions also cover topics such as wartime politics and science , pollution, urban planning and social science .
