For his work on the diocese of Merseburg he was honored by the Philosophical Faculty in July 1858. At Easter 1859 he moved to the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin , where he was shaped by Moriz Haupt and promoted by Karl Müllenhoff . With a doctoral thesis with Karl Ploetz , he was awarded Dr. phil. PhD . Always looking for a university career, he (like many philologists) first started teaching. He passed the probationary year at the secondary school in Meseritz , Province of Poznan . After he had passed the exam pro facultate docendi in Berlin in November 1861 , he was an adjunct at the Brandenburg Knight Academy from Easter 1862 . In 1864 he accepted the first teaching post at the new high school in Wriezen . Since 1867 senior teacher , he became a teacher at the Sophien-Realschule in Berlin in autumn 1869. Müllenhoff asked him to co- edit a book of heroes . It should include all poems based on the Nibelungenlied and the Kudrun . Jänicke initially devoted himself to Biterolf and Dietleib . He published a lot of articles in the magazine for German philology . He obtained the edition of Tristan (Gottfried von Straßburg) for the Germanistic Reference Library . Before he found out about the reputation of the University of Freiburg , he died at the age of 34.

Janicke's estate went to Julius Zacher. For the publication of Tristan he passed it on to August Reifferscheid in Greifswald.
