Ota Wićaz
Ota Wićaz (German name: Otto Lehmann ; born June 14, 1874 in Quatitz ; † November 28, 1952 in Stollberg ) was a Sorbian literary and cultural historian and also active as a writer.
Life
In the Lausitzer Predigergesellschaft he was Wendish librarian and special senior of the Sorabicum, in 1899 parish vicar in Leipzig , from 1900 elementary school teacher in Rötha , Leipzig, Hochkirch , Dresden and Zschopau , in 1902 instructor at the teachers' seminar in Waldenburg and Bautzen . In 1903, he became what was to be understood as anti Sorbian measure offset from the teacher training college in Stollberg , was there in 1904 seminar senior teacher, 1914 Professor, 1920 teacher , senior teacher 1922, 1926 Director of Studies and early retirement 1936th In 1941 he was called up for school service again, but retired in 1943. In 1945 he returned to school and finally retired in 1949.
He was editor of the Časopis Maćicy Serbskeje (ČMS) and from 1950 to 1952 editor of the Sorbian cultural magazine Rozhlad .
In 1947 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Leipzig in recognition of his contribution to Sorbian literary science and cultural history .
