Otomārs Nemme

Otomārs Nemme (born October 7, 1891 in Aloja ; † December 31, 1947 in Memmingen ) was a Latvian painter , draftsman and caricaturist .

Live and act

From 1911 to 1915 Nemme was a student of Janis Rozentāls and Janis Roberts Tillbergs in the city art school in Riga . He then studied from 1919 to 1920 at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Latvia . In 1929 he received his diploma in the painting workshop of Tillberg at the Latvian Art Academy , where he worked as an assistant from 1926. From 1932 he taught drawing at the School of Applied Arts and art history at the Technical University in Riga.

He mainly made portraits of landscapes, still lifes or portraits, whereby his style was initially influenced by Impressionism . His works have been shown in exhibitions since 1914 and he was involved as an independent companion in the artists' association "Sadarbs". His drawings and caricatures have appeared in the magazines Libra , Illustrated Magazine , Bat and Rest , among others . In 1944 he moved to Germany and took part in the first exhibition of Latvian artists in exile. Works by Nemme can be seen in the Latvian Art Museum in Riga.
