In 1895, when he was almost 50, Baer moved to Serkowitz near Dresden. There he took over the paint factory founded in 1870, which has operated as the Robert Gysae carbon black factory since 1871 . After the takeover, Baer focused on the great future of colored printing inks and expanded the production program to include these in addition to black inks .

As a result, the company grew to such an extent that he had to move the soot distillery to another property. The Firnissiederei was also soon relocated to another location, for which he had acquired a piece of land in Brockwitz near Coswig that had a siding. His son Otto Baer jun., Born in 1880 . joined the O. Baer paint factory in 1905 as co-managing director , which he continued after his father's death.

Not least because of his social corporate governance towards his workers, Baer was elected 2nd community elder in Serkowitz in 1898. Otto Baer Sr. died in 1932 on the White Stag and was buried in the Dresden North Cemetery.
