Otto Sartorius (theologian)

Otto Hugo Sartorius (born April 22, 1864 in Walpernhain , † February 6, 1947 in Göttingen ) was a German Protestant clergyman and genealogist.

Life

Sartorius was a son of the landowner Karl Wilhelm Leberecht Sartorius. After studying theology, he became pastor in Burghaun near Fulda in 1892 , in 1901 in Sterbfritz , Schlüchtern district, in 1909 in Barmen-Unterbarmen and in 1917 in Dankelshausen . He retired in 1934, but served as pastor in Harste near Göttingen for another four years. In 1938 he finally retired.

Sartorius himself descended from Martin Luther and devoted himself particularly to researching Luther's descendants. He was the founder and long-time leader of the Lutherid Association and wrote a list of Luther's descendants, which is still an important basis for research today.
