Otto Stolz (historian)

Otto Stolz (born March 31, 1881 in Innsbruck ; † November 5, 1957 ibid) was an Austrian folklorist and historian .

Life

Otto Stolz was a son of the mathematician Otto Stolz . After attending high school in Innsbruck began at Emil von Ottenthal and Hans von Voltelini (1862-1938) and Oswald Redlich his studies in History at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna . In 1907 he passed his teaching examination. After studying in Rome, he took a position at the Lieutenancy Archives in Innsbruck, today's Tyrolean Provincial Archives .

In 1912 he qualified as a professor for Austrian history under Hermann Wopfner , and in 1923 was appointed associate professor at the University of Innsbruck . During this time he took over the management of the state government archive and, since 1939, the Reichsgau archive in Innsbruck. In 1940 he joined the NSDAP , between 1943 and 1949 he was entrusted with the representation of the chair for German legal history at the University of Innsbruck. In 1951 the university awarded him an honorary doctorate.
