Otto Uhlmann

Otto Uhlmann (born August 20, 1891 in Sitzberg near Turbenthal ; † March 8, 1980 in Zurich ) was a Swiss conductor and composer . He is best known for his Ticino soldier song Quattro cavai che trottano for male choir.

After studying in Zurich and Paris , Uhlmann worked as a private music teacher, choir and orchestra conductor in Zurich and Winterthur , where he was university music director from 1918 to 1923 and as a singing teacher at the canton school from 1921 to 1927. He conducted a. a. the Zurich Student Choir, the Winterthur Male Choir and the Winterthur City Orchestra . As a composer he created a. a. two symphonies, a string quartet, a string trio and two violin sonatas as well as numerous solo and male choir songs.

In 1932 Uhlmann was the founding president of the Eastern Switzerland Professional Conductors Association (since 1937 the Swiss Professional Conductors Association ). From 1949 to 1969 he was also editor-in-chief of the choir magazine Eidgenössisches Sängerblatt .
