Ove Verner Hansen (born July 20, 1932 in Helsingør ; † February 20, 2016 in Gentofte Kommune ) was a Danish actor , opera singer (bass) and cook .

Life

Hansen was the son of the model maker Evald Verner Hansen († 1973) and his wife Anna Thora Nielsen († 1993) and grew up in Helsingør on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) . His father owned a joinery and sang in the church choir of Helsingør Cathedral ; later he also brought his son into the choir. After graduating from school, Ove Verner Hansen started training as an office specialist in Helsingør and then worked as a sailor, lumberjack, miner and paramedic. In 1958, at the age of 26, he joined the Danmarks Radio radio choir . On the basis of a recommendation, he went to the Det kgl. Teaters Operaskole , the opera school of the Royal Theater in Copenhagen, where he trained as an opera singer. In 1960 Hansen appeared for the first time as a member of the opera choir at the Royal Theater; In 1963 he made his debut there as a soloist in the role of "Osmin" in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail . He then got a firm commitment and for many years was the leading bass - Buffo at the house. Among other things, he embodied the Leporello in Don Giovanni and the rendegarn in A Midsummer Night's Dream . Until his retirement in 1987, Hansen was engaged as an opera singer and stage actor at the Royal Theater, but also made guest appearances as a singer and actor at many other Scandinavian theaters and opera houses. He also appeared as a singer on some television shows. Many of his varied musical works have been published on record .

Hansen also worked in several diverse television productions and movies. Due to his remarkable comedic talent, he was discovered by Danish director Erik Balling and played in several of his films. His most famous role in German-speaking countries is the " stupid pig " in the films of the Olsen Gang . In this he embodied - after two smaller roles in the fourth and fifth film - since the sixth part The (presumably) last prank of the Olsen gang, the henchman of the gang's powerful opponents. He also played the same role in some of the films in the Norwegian remake of the Olsen Gang. He holds the record of 16 Olsen gang films among all the actors involved. In the Danish original, he is called "Bøffen" and in the Norwegian version of the Olsen Gang " Biffen ", in German Boulette , probably because of his stature. Ove Verner Hansen was also filmed in the fourteenth Norwegian Olsenbande film Olsenbandens siste stikk , an appearance in the role of "Biffen" or "Stupid Pig". Due to the length of the film, however, his part was cut out again; therefore he cannot be seen in the final version. In the Danish original The (really) very last trick of the Olsen Gang , however, the role of the “stupid pig” by Ove Verner Hansen was retained as part of the film.

Furthermore, he worked as a hobby cook in his spare time and wrote several books on the subject of cooking and several cookbooks. He also made regular appearances as a television chef on Danish television.

Ove Verner Hansen was married to Birthe Hansen on December 11, 1960. He died after a short illness during a stay at Gentofte Hospital near Copenhagen at the age of 83 of heart failure in the presence of his family. The funeral service took place on February 27, 2016 in Helsingør Cathedral . According to his wishes, his ashes were then scattered on the Öresund near Helsingør .
