Owen Roizman
Owen I. Roizman (born September 22, 1936 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York ) is an American cameraman .
Life
Owen I. Roizman was born to Sol Roizman, a cameraman for Fox Movietone News, and the nephew of Morrie Roizman , a film editor. After studying at Gettysburg College , which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics in 1958 , he began working as a camera assistant for commercials. He worked his way up to becoming a cameraman and was able to work for the first time in 1970 with the low-budget drama Stop as the main cameraman for a feature film. As a result, William Friedkin and Phil D'Antoni became aware of his work, so they hired him as a cameraman in their thriller French Connection - Focal Point Brooklyn . With his first Hollywood film, Roizman was able to celebrate his first of five Academy Award nominations for Best Camera .
Owen Roizman was President of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) in 1997 and has been a board member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2002 . In 2017 he was awarded the Oscar of Honor for his services as a cameraman .
