Oya is a magazine about alternative ways of life that do not follow the westernized consumer culture. The name of the magazine refers, among other things, to Oyá , the storm goddess of the Yoruba people .

The magazine discusses a cover topic in detail. Furthermore, articles appear in the areas of health, education, permaculture , society and culture, eco-villages and communities, politics and cultural history, community projects, social models and utopias . Oya also includes columns, reviews, classifieds and diaries. All texts of the contributions can be found on the website and are under a Creative Commons license (by-nc-sa).

Authors

The spectrum of authors results from the title topic of the respective issue. Ulrich Holbein and Peter Wawerzinek were regular columnists . Well-known contributors include David Abram , Veronika Bennholdt-Thomsen , Claus Biegert , Mathias Greffrath , Franz-Theo Gottwald , Marianne Gronemeyer , Friederike Habermann , Silke Helfrich , Declan Kennedy , Hildegard Kurt , Geseko von Lüpke , Niko Paech , Jascha Rohr , Fabian Scheidler , Wilhelm Schmid , Ute Scheub , Michael Succow , Petra Steinberger , Andreas Weber and Harald Welzer . Oya also published texts in German for the first time by Maude Barlow , JM Coetzee , Wendell Berry , David Graeber , Ursula K. Le Guin , Václav Havel , Peter Linebaugh , Bill McKibben , Ervin László , Prince Charles , Elisabet Sahtouris and Rupert Sheldrake .

Publishing data

Oya has been published every two months since the first issue in March / April 2010. Johannes Heimrath is the publisher, Lara Mallien is the editor-in- chief . The editorial office is located in Klein Jasedow, a district of Lassan in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . One issue has 100 pages.

The print run is 10,000 copies. Oya has 4100 subscriptions. Oya is sold through the station book trade.

Publishing house as a cooperative

Oya Medien eG is the publisher of the magazine. It forms the economic basis of Oya. The cooperative has around 350 members, including the trust of the GLS community bank .
