Ozjet Airlines was a scheduled and charter airline based at Tullamarine Airport in the Australian metropolis of Melbourne . The company, which was founded in 2005, was taken over by Strategic Airlines in 2009 and largely integrated into it. With the bankruptcy of Strategic in February 2012, the existence of OzJet also ended.

history

The airline was founded by Paul Stoddart and partners as a scheduled airline for the Australian region and began operating with the Sydney - Melbourne route at the end of 2005 . However, the company did not achieve the required level of capacity utilization and therefore had to temporarily suspend line operations in March 2006.

In May 2006, OzJet took over Air Nauru's scheduled service between Brisbane or Sydney and Norfolk Island . Since then OzJet has operated a Boeing 737-200 in the colors of Norfolk Air . The airline also operated the Perth - Derby route and operated charter flights.

In Europe, the name OzJet became known primarily through the sponsorship of Stoddart's Formula 1 team Minardi . Since 2007, the airline has also sponsored the Minardi USA team in the American Champcar racing series.

In 2008 OzJet was sold to HeavyLift Cargo Airlines . In 2009, OzJet was taken over by Strategic Airlines and integrated into them. Until 2011, flights were still operated under OzJet codes. On February 17, 2012, Strategic Airlines, which had operated mainly under the name Air Australia as a low-cost airline since November 2011 , was taken into insolvency administration.
