Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Goods of the Church

The Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Assets of the Church ( Latin : Pontificia Commissio de Bonis Culturalibus Ecclesiae ) was established in 1988 by Pope John Paul II through the Apostolic Constitution Pastor Bonus . Its name was originally the Pontifical Commission for the Preservation of Ecclesiastical Patrimony in Art and History , but was given its current name in 1993.

The Commission's remit is to supervise and maintain church archives, historical libraries and museums.

Pope Benedict XVI merged the Pontifical Commission for Cultural Goods and the Pontifical Council for Culture with the Motu proprio Pulchritudinis fidei (“The Beauty of Faith”) on November 3, 2012.
