Périers is a French commune with 2,259 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the Arrondissement Coutances and the Canton of Agon-Coutainville (until 2015: Canton Périers ). The inhabitants are called Prislais .
geography
Périers is located about 24 kilometers northwest of Saint-Lô and about 13 kilometers to the west of the Atlantic coast. The municipality is located between the rivers Sèves in the northwest and Taute in the east. Périers is surrounded by the neighboring communities
- Saint-Patrice-de-Claids in the north and north-west,
- Gonfreville in the north,
- Saint-Germain-sur-Sèves in the northeast,
- Saint-Sébastien-de-Raids in the east,
- Saint-Martin-d'Aubigny in the southeast,
- Saint-Sauveur-Villages with Saint-Aubin-du-Perron in the southeast and Vaudrimesnil in the south.
- Millières to the west.
The former Routes nationales 171 (today's D971) and 800 (today's D900) run through the municipality .
history
With Operation Cobra , the Allied troops advanced from the landing sites in Normandy into the French interior. The first advance took place shortly before July 24, 1944 on the road from Périers to Saint-Lô.
