The P-40 (Russian name "Bronja" , nickname "Eisenschwein" , NATO code name Long Track ) is a Russian mobile radar station on the base vehicle 426 U. The original Russian designator is 1S12 . Under the name P-40, the radar device was used to assign targets for units of the NVA air defense and has a range of about 378 kilometers.

Technology of the vehicle

The vehicle is a modified version of the AT-T artillery tug . A 12-cylinder 4-stroke diesel engine with an output of 342 kW (465 hp) is used as the drive motor, which gives the radar station a top speed of 55 km / h with a device weight of 35 tons. The device is powered by a built-in 100 kW, 400 Hz generator that is driven by a gas turbine. The power supply was designed redundantly. The crew consists of six men.

Occupation of the NVA
  • 1 station manager - officer / professional non-commissioned officer,
  • 1 troop leader - temporary non-commissioned officer,
  • 1 driver - non-commissioned officer on time,
  • 3 radio locators - soldiers in basic military service

Radar device

The transmitter consists of four series-connected amplitrons as transmitter tubes, which are controlled by a traveling wave tube . Individual transmission tubes could be switched off and the transmission power partially reduced.
