On January 1st, 2008 the parish of St. Peter merged with Pagig to form the new parish of St. Peter-Pagig. Since the beginning of 2013, Pagig has been part of the political municipality of Arosa as the locality of St. Peter and Pagig .

coat of arms

Description : Golden ibex horn rooted in blue . After the coat of arms of the noblemen of Buwix, whose castle tower is said to have been above the village. Colors of the Ten Court League .

geography

Pagig is located on the right, northern side of the valley of the Schanfigg , eight kilometers (as the crow flies) east of Chur , about 60 m above the cantonal road to Arosa. The village consists of two small settlements on both sides of the Grosstobel . As a narrow strip, bounded in the west by the Clasaurer Tobel , the municipal area extended from the deeply cut Plessur ( 820  m above sea level ) over the rugged slope to the zone of the alpine meadows. There the territory widened to the Pagiger Bleis Mulde and reached on the ridge of the Hochwang range from Tüfelsch Chopf over the main summit of the Hochwangs (2533 m, highest point of the former municipality) to the east of the Ratoser Stein (2474 m).

Of the entire former community area of 524 hectares, 305 hectares are usable for agriculture, mostly as alpine pastures. In addition to 165 hectares of forest and wood and 42 hectares of unproductive area (mostly mountains), there are also 12 hectares of settlement area.

Neighboring communities were Lüen , Castiel , Trimmis (exclave), Furna , St. Peter and Molinis .

history

The place mentioned in 1160 as Puigo belonged in the Drei Bünden as the neighborhood of the Ausserschanfigg court to the Ten Courts League. Neither of the Buwix Castle (above the village) nor of the castle of the Lords of Unterwegen (below) have been preserved.
