Coordinates: 35 ° 25 ' S , 149 ° 41' O Palerang was a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 5,134 km² and last had about 14,500 inhabitants. Until 2005 the LGA was still called Eastern Capital City Regional. In 2016 she was absorbed into the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council .
Palerang was in the southeast of the state and borders the Australian Capital Territory around the capital Canberra to the west . The area comprised 65 hamlets and hamlets, including Bungendore, Braidwood, Captains Flat, Araluen, Mongarlowe, Majors Creek, Nerriga and parts of Carwoola and Sutton. The administrative seat of the council was in the town of Bungendore in the northeast of the LGA, where now about 2,750 inhabitants live.

The Palerang Council had nine members elected by LGA residents. Palerang was not divided into districts. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
