Pat Mary Barker (born May 8, 1943 in Thornaby-on-Tees , England ) is a British writer .

Life

Barker published her first novel, Union Street she made her in 1982. Known novels trilogy regeneration in which they deal with the First World War employed. Siegfried Sassoon , Robert Graves and Wilfred Owen appear in the story, which starts from a hospital for traumatized British officers during the First World War and describes the efforts of those who stayed at home and those who returned to survive the war psychologically . The individual works are No Man's Land , The Eye in the Door and The Street of the Spirits . For the third volume she was awarded the Booker Prize . In 2001 she received the WELT Literature Prize . She then wrote the two-volume novel Life Class (2009) / Toby's Room (2012) about a group of art students at Slade School in the period before and during the First World War. In 2014, the second volume was translated into German, which Thomas Medicus believes would be difficult to understand without reading the first .

Barker is married and now lives in Durham , England .
