Patrick "Pat" James John Eddery (born March 18, 1952 in Newbridge , County Kildare , Ireland ; † November 10, 2015 ) was an Irish jockey who won numerous internationally renowned horse races between 1974 and 1996 .

He was eleven times the most successful jockey in Great Britain ( British flat racing champion jockey ) (1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1996).

Life

Eddery, son of jockey Jimmy Eddery and brother of jockey Paul Eddery, began his career in 1967 and competed in numerous internationally known horse races, in particular between 1974 and 1996, and continued to take part in races afterwards.

His greatest victories included winning the Epsom Derby in 1975, 1982 and 1990 and during this time also won the Epsom Oaks three times in 1974, 1979 and 1996. Eddery also won the 1986, 1991, 1994 and 1997 St. Leger Stakes .

One of his greatest successes outside of Great Britain was his victories at the Prix ​​de l'Arc de Triomphe , which he won in 1980 and three times in a row in 1985, 1986 and 1987. In 1988 and 1990 he also won the Prix ​​du Jockey Club in France .
