Patricia Hodge

Patricia Ann Hodge (born September 29, 1946 in Cleethorpes , England ) is a British actress . She made her theatrical debut at the West End Theater in London in 1972 and starred in the 1973 West End production of Pippin , directed by Bob Fosse . Hodge was nominated twice for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical before receiving the 2000 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role Money .

She achieved fame in the German-speaking world primarily through her appearances on the BBC sitcom Miranda , in which she played the self-centered mother Penny of the eponymous leading actress Miranda from 2009 to 2014.

Early life

Hodge was born in Cleethorpes , Lincolnshire . As the daughter of the owner of the Royal Hotel Eric and his wife Marion (née Phillips), Hodge studied at what later became Brunel University in order to be able to work as a teacher. She later studied English and dramaturgy, including at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art . She started at LAMDA when she was 22 years old and at the same time was nominated for the Eveline Evans Award for Best Actress.

Career

After graduation, she focused on working on the theater and worked with Bob Fosse on Pippin 18 months later . At that time, contrary to many voices, she decided to stay at the theater and not switch completely to television.

Hodge is in The Naked Civil Servant , the BBC version of Hay Fever , as Margaret Thatcher in The Falklands Play and in 2007 as Betty in the BBC drama Maxwell . In fraud ( Betrayal ), she appeared in 1983 as a lead actress.

She was nominated for a BAFTA for her role in the television adaptation Hotel du Lac . Hodge is an Honorary Graduate (DLitt) from Brunel University and one of the founding members of the Brunel Club. From 2009 to 2014 she starred as Penny, Miranda's self-centered mother, in the BBC series of the same name.

Private life

Hodge married the music producer Peter Douglas Owen on July 31, 1976 in Tonbridge . They have two sons, Alexander Richard Charles (* March 1989) and Edward Frederick James (* January 1992). Peter Owen died in 2016.
