Patrick Schmidt (born September 10, 1993 in Homburg ) is a German football player . The striker is on loan from 1. FC Heidenheim to Dynamo Dresden and is a former junior national player.
Career
Schmidt played for the youth teams of several small Saarland clubs and moved to 1. FC Saarbrücken in 2006 . After three years he went to VfB Stuttgart , for whose youth teams he played until 2012. For the 2012/13 season he moved to FC Schalke 04 and played with its second team in the Regionalliga West . During the winter break of the 2013/14 season he returned to 1. FC Saarbrücken and made his first appearance in the 3rd division on March 8, 2014 when he was substituted on for the game against Chemnitzer FC . In the game against Hansa Rostock on March 25, 2014, he scored his first goal in the 3rd division .
Before the 2014/15 season, Schmidt moved to the Saarland competitor FC 08 Homburg . After two years in Homburg, he returned to 1. FC Saarbrücken for the 2016/17 season. In the same season Schmidt was top scorer in the Regionalliga Südwest with 22 goals together with Muhamed Alawie .
In the summer of 2018, the second division club 1. FC Heidenheim signed the striker and provided him with a contract valid until June 2022. By the 2019/20 winter break, Schmidt had played 25 competitive games in which he could only contribute one goal and three assists. As a consequence, he was awarded to the league competitor Dynamo Dresden in January 2020 until the end of the second division season 2019/20 . There is a purchase option after the loan transaction. In the 2-1 home win against FC Erzgebirge Aue on matchday 25, the striker scored the winning goal with an overhead kick , which was voted Goal of the Month for March at the end of April 2020 .
