Paul Méfano

Paul Méfano (born March 6, 1937 in Basra / Iraq ) is a French composer and music teacher .

Life

Méfano studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Andrée Vaurabourg-Honegger , Darius Milhaud and Georges Dandelot . He also attended courses with Pierre Boulez , Karlheinz Stockhausen and Henri Pousseur , took part in the Darmstadt summer courses and studied composition with Olivier Messiaen .

Méfano lived in the USA from 1966 to 1968, then in Berlin for a year. In 1970 he returned to France and founded the ensemble 2e2m for contemporary music. From 1972 to 1988 he directed the Conservatory of Champigny-sur-Marne, then he taught composition and orchestration at the Conservatoire de Paris and in 1996 became director of the Conservatory of Versailles.

In addition to works for individual instruments and chamber music composed Méfano vocal and orchestral works, and the action musicale Micromégas I . He was u. a.
