Paul Winfield

Paul Edward Winfield (born May 22, 1939 in Los Angeles , California , † March 7, 2004 ) was an American television and film actor .

Life

Paul Winfield attended various universities such as UCLA , Stanford University and the University of Hawaii . After some stage appearances, he had smaller roles in numerous television series from 1965 and in the 1969 film The Lost Man - There is no way back alongside leading actor Sidney Poitier . He played again with Poitier in Brother John .

For his portrayal of Nathan Lee Morgan in the drama The year without a father (Sounder) Winfield in 1972 for an Oscar as Best Actor nomination.

Winfield, who continued to shoot for television in addition to his work as a film actor, was nominated three times for an Emmy and received the trophy in 1995 for his guest appearance as judge Harold Nance on the television series Picket Fences .

Winfield spent 30 years privately with his life partner, architect Charles Gillan, Jr., who died of bone cancer on March 5, 2002.

Winfield fought against obesity and diabetes for a long time. He died of a heart attack at the age of 64 at the Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles. Winfield and Gillan are buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
