Pavel Sergeevich Abankin
Pavel Sergeyevich Abankin ( Russian Павел Сергеевич Абанькин ; born September 5 . Jul / 18th September 1902 greg. In Potschkowo , Russian Empire ; d. 15 Aug. 1965 in Leningrad , USSR ) was a Soviet admiral .
career
Abankin was born in the village of Pochkovo in what is now Ryazan Oblast . He became a member of the CPSU in 1920 and graduated from the MW Frunze Naval School in Leningrad in 1927 . He served in the Baltic Fleet and graduated from the Naval Academy in 1937 . He became military commissioner at the military aviation school in Yeisk and in June 1939 a member of the military council of the Pacific Fleet . In July 1940 he was appointed commander of the Amur flotilla and in June 1943 the commander of the Onega flotilla . He took over the management of the Naval Academy in September 1944 and in April 1945 he was Deputy Commander in Chief of the Navy. In 1951 he was promoted to admiral. From 1952 to 1958 he headed the Hydrographic Office of the Navy. In 1960 Abankin retired .
