Pehr Löfling

Pehr Löfling (born January 31, 1729 in Tollfors bruk , † February 22, 1756 in Venezuela ) was a Swedish botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Loefl. "

Life

Pehr Löfling studied from 1743 at Uppsala University , where he was a student of Carl von Linné . In 1751 he went to Madrid , where he taught as a professor. From 1751 to 1753 he undertook botanical journeys on the Iberian Peninsula , and from 1754 to 1756 in northern South America . In 1756 he died of malaria at the "Murrecurri" (also "Merercuri") mission station in Venezuela .

Dedication names

The plant genus Loeflingia L. from the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae) and the genus Pehria Sprague from the loosestrife family (Lythraceae) have been named after him.
