Perichaena is a genus of slime molds from the order of the Trichiida . It includes 16 species .

features

The fruiting bodies are plasmodiocarp or sporocarp . The peridium has two layers, the layers are close to one another. The outer layer is irregularly granulated like spots, occasionally the granulation is only weakly pronounced. It is not certain whether this granulation is lime. The inner layer of the peridium is membranous and translucent. The capillitium consists of simple or branched, hollow threads, the surface can be reticulated, spiky, smooth or ring-like, but is never spirally banded. The spores are yellow.

The genus is distributed worldwide with many of its species, it is mostly found on hardwood and in foliage. Six species are also known from German-speaking countries.

Systematics and research history

The genus was first described by Elias Magnus Fries in 1817 , the type species is Perichaena corticalis . The genus includes around 16 species:
