The persona grata ( Latin for welcome man ) denotes a contemplated representatives of a State with the rank of ambassador , an ambassador or a Permanent chargé d'affaires , which the Agrément , in accordance with Article 4 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations , the approval of the future receiving State, was granted. The issuance of an entry visa for diplomats who are intended to be members of the diplomatic staff of the mission counts as a declaration of persona grata.

The opposite is the persona non grata .
