The Peruvian Navy ( Spanish : Marina de Guerra del Perú ) is part of the Peruvian Armed Forces . Around 25,000 soldiers, including 4,000 marines, serve in it .

Since May 23, 1973, the navy's flagship has been the cruiser Almirante Grau , built in the Netherlands , with a length of 182 meters, a water displacement of over 12,000 tons and a crew of 650.

Organization and leadership

The commander of the Peruvian Navy has been Admiral Carlos Gamarra Elias since December 29, 2007 . The Peruvian Navy is subordinate to the Defense Minister and ultimately to the Peruvian President as Commander in Chief of the Peruvian Armed Forces.

The units of the Peruvian Navy are under three different commanders:

  • Commander in Chief for Operations in the Pacific (Comandante General de Operaciones del Pacífico) - Vice Admiral Luis Alejandro Ramos Ormeño
  • Commander-in-chief for operations on the Amazon (Comandante General de Operaciones de la Amazonía) - Vice Admiral Alberto Lozada Frías
  • Director General de Capitanías y Guardacostas - Vice Admiral (xxx), who reports to the Director de Hidrografía y Navegación ( Rear Admiral Oleg Nicolas Kriljenko Arnillas)

history

The Peruvian Navy was officially established in October 1821. Jorge Martin Guise was the first fleet manager . The first Peruvian warship was the Sacramento . During the Saltpeter War (1879–1884) against Chile, the Peruvian Navy - in contrast to the army - occasionally achieved some spectacular victories at sea. The decisive factor here was the role of the British-built Huascar tank monitor , which was the most modern ship in the conflict, but fell into Chilean hands in 1879.

"Gloriosa Marina Peruana" is the official anthem of the Peruvian Navy. Your text reads:

Navy Day

By law (ley) 102526 of October 6, 1945, October 8, the day of the Battle of Angamos and the day of the death of Miguel Grau Seminario, was declared Navy Day.

The Peruvian Navy has maintained several recreational facilities for its officers and their families since 1900. The main facilities are:
