Pete Farndon

Pete Farndon (born June 2, 1952 in Hereford ; † April 14, 1983 ) was a British rock musician who became famous primarily as the bass player for the Pretenders .

Life

Farndon grew up in Hereford. He traveled around the world in the mid-1970s. In Australia he was a member of the folk rock band The Bushwackers for some time . In the late 1970s he returned to Hereford, where he met Chrissie Hynde . Together with her he founded the Pretenders in 1979. On his recommendation, James Honeyman-Scott became guitarist, who in turn brought drummer Martin Chambers with him.

Farndon had severe drug problems that resulted in his being forced to quit the band on June 14, 1982. He didn't implement his plan to found a new band with Topper Headon from The Clash . On April 14, 1983, Farndon was found dead in his apartment. He had drowned in his bathtub after using heroin .
