Peter Apathy

Peter Apathy (born September 25, 1948 in Wels ) is an Austrian lawyer and professor for the history of private law and Austrian civil law at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz . He is the head of the institute for Roman law and head of the department for the history of dogma at the institute for civil law .

Life

After graduating from the Theresianum in 1966 , Peter Apathy studied law at the University of Social and Economic Sciences in Linz from 1967 to 1971 . In 1972 he received his doctoratesub auspiciis ”, followed three years later by his habilitation in Roman law. Before he was appointed full professor for the history of private law and Austrian civil law at the JKU in 1977, he worked for several years as a contract and university assistant at the Institute for Roman Law.

Apathy was Dean of the Faculty of Law for four years (1982 to 1986). Since 1987 he has been head of the department for the history of dogmas at the Institute for Civil Law and since 2007 head of the Institute for Roman Law. In addition, he was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law, Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Chairman of the Association of Professors at the JKU, member of the Federal Professors' Conference and Chairman of the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Law. Since 2005 he has also been a member of the extended board of the civil law teachers association .
