Peter Artner (born May 20, 1966 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian football player .

Career as a player

Artner began his professional career at Austria, which in 1987 after a year on loan at Vienna gave him in exchange for Manfred Zsak to league competitor FC Admira / Wacker . In the southern part of the city he became a national player in his debut season . After four years with Admira and a UEFA Cup entry later, he moved to the then Austrian top club SV Austria Salzburg . After three successful years with championship titles, the UEFA Cup final and the Champions League, the long-maned Austrian became aware of the foreign country. Artner moved to Hércules Alicante in the Spanish Primera Division. After the unsuccessful season in Spain , his path led back home via the Italian second division club US Foggia . His last season as a player was in 2000/01 with FCN St. Pölten in the Austrian First Division .

Artner played 55 times for the Austrian national team and scored a goal as a defensive midfielder.

Artner played twice at the 1990 World Cup in Italy and saw the red card in Austria's game against the USA (3rd group game).
