Peter "Pete" Broeker (born May 15, 1929 in Hamilton , † November 4, 1980 in Ottawa ) was a Canadian racing car driver .
Career
Peter Broeker was Himself the North American professional world virtually unknown in 1963 for the US Grand Prix appeared. In Watkins Glen Broeker tried to qualify for the race with a Strebo 4 Ford. The overweight car had a poorly performing four-cylinder engine and Broeker was 15 seconds behind Graham Hill's best time in the BRM P57 in practice . In the end of the race, the Canadian was 22 laps behind the winner Hill and was not classified.
In 1964 Broeker came to Europe with the Strebo and tried his hand at Formula 2 races with the adapted car . But neither car nor driver were even close to being competitive. Broeker always started from last place on the grid and was overtaken several times in every race he participated in. At the Berlin Grand Prix, at the AVUS , he was twelfth, but again the gap to the winner was too big to be counted.
Broeker drove his Strebo in national races in Canada until the late 1960s and then switched to a Chevron . He celebrated his only mentioned victory in 1970 at a race in Westwood. Broeker ended his career in the mid-1970s after spending a few more seasons in Formula Atlantic .
