Peter Dussmann

Peter Karl Dussmann (born October 5, 1938 in Rottweil ; † September 26, 2013 in Monaco ) was a German entrepreneur and founder of the Dussmann Group .

Origin and career entry

Peter Dussmann's parents ran a bookstore in his native Rottweil . After completing secondary school at the local Leibniz grammar school, which he attended from 1949 to 1955, and after completing a commercial apprenticeship in Villingen , Dussmann initially worked in sales for various companies.

Entrepreneur

In 1963 he founded the Peter Dussmann home care service in Munich . Initially, his customers were mostly private individuals, especially bachelors . Dussmann increasingly offered his company's services to commercial customers, such as hospitals . Dussmann relied on the mechanization and rationalization of the activities at an early stage . 1,975 employees Dussmann resulted in more than 100 clinics cleaning services from.

From 1966 to 2002, Dussmann headed today's Dussmann Group as CEO . Since 1968 he has internationalized his company, which currently has around 60,000 employees and is active in 21 countries. Commitment and honors

Dussmann was active in the working group of self-employed entrepreneurs . He was on the board of this interest group .

After the political change and German reunification , the entrepreneur campaigned for the preservation of cultural monuments in East Germany. In addition, he was chairman of the Association of Friends and Patrons of the State Opera Unter den Linden for many years . The Berlin music high school Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was also supported by Dussmann. Until the end of 2009 he was also deputy chairman of the board of trustees of the Werner Bonhoff Foundation .

Peter Dussmann received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 1989 . His commitment to cultural monuments was recognized in 2003 with the German Prize for Monument Protection (Karl-Friedrich-Schinkel-Ring) of the German National Committee for Monument Protection . In the same year he was also awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin .

After a stroke in 1999, Dussmann gradually withdrew from the management of his company and handed over parts of the operational management to Herbert Lütkestratkötter. His successor was Frank Wössner . After Wössner left, Dussmann took over management functions again. In September 2007 Peter Dussmann moved to the Dussmann Group's supervisory board . In October 2008 he suffered a serious stroke in Rome . Since then he has lived in the south of France, dependent on home care and assistance . In September 2013 he died of the long-term effects of the stroke. He is buried in the old cathedral cemetery of the St. Hedwigs community in Berlin .

Private

Since 1982 Peter Dussmann was married to the native American Catherine von Fürstenberg-Dussmann . Dussmann has a daughter.
