Peter Lynch
Peter S. Lynch (born January 19, 1944 in Boston ) was an investment fund manager and is a consultant at Fidelity Investments .
Life
Lynch joined the Boston College in 1965, and graduated as a Master of Business Administration at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. Lynch began in 1966 as an intern at Fidelity Investments after serving as a caddy for the president of Fidelity and other worked for the Brae Burn Country Club in Newton, Massachusetts . At first he was involved in the paper, chemical and printing industries. After two years of military service in the US Army as a lieutenant in the artillery , he got his permanent position in 1969. At the time, Lynch was in charge of observing the Textile, Metals, Mining, Chemical Industry and was Fidelity's Research Director from 1974 to 1977. In 1977, Lynch became manager of the then largely unknown mutual fund Magellan Fund , which had issued shares for $ 18 million. In 1983, the fund assets managed by Lynch reached the billion mark. By the time Lynch resigned as fund manager in 1990, the fund had grown to more than $ 14 billion in assets comprising more than 1,000 different stocks. From 1977 to 1990, Lynch achieved an average annual return of 29.2% on the Magellan Fund.
Lynch explained investment strategies for retail investors in his books. He also wrote articles about investments in Worth magazine. In 1991 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
He is not related to Edmund C. Lynch , the co-founder of the investment bank Merrill Lynch .
