Peter R. Neumann (born December 4, 1974 in Würzburg ) is a German political scientist and journalist .

Life

Neumann comes from Würzburg . Since 1993 he has worked as a freelance radio journalist, a. a. for Deutsche Welle . He studied political science in Berlin and Belfast , completed his studies in politics at the Free University of Berlin with a master's degree and received his doctorate from King's College London .

Neumann has been director of the International Center for the Study of Radicalization at King's College in London since 2008 . He is considered an expert on Islamist terror . For his research, Neumann evaluated the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles of British people who fight as jihadists in Syria and Iraq. He collected a data set of 700 European jihadists, 85 percent of whom fight for the "Islamic State ". The attack on Charlie Hebdo and the attacks in Copenhagen in early 2015 are examples of what will happen in the next few years and decades: "Europe is facing a new wave of terrorism that will keep us busy for a generation," said Neumann.
