Peter Schiller (born June 29, 1957 in Selb ; † May 22, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German ice hockey player .

Career

In 1975 Peter Schiller moved from VER Selb to Cologne EC . In addition to sports, he completed an apprenticeship as a tax assistant in Cologne. In his first years at the KEC, he received many assignments. In his fourth season in Cologne he was one of the most important players in the team that won the championship title - it was already the second championship for Schiller and the KEC after 1977 . The winger was always one of the best players in the Haie team in the following years and remained loyal to the club even during the first major financial crisis. In 1983/84 he won the German championship again with the KEC. The following year he caused a sensation in the European Cup when, out of boredom, he ran the puck behind his own goal and did push-ups there during the game against Bozen, which the KEC won 6-1. Schiller played a total of 494 league games for Cologne and scored 208 goals.

After his fourth championship with the Cologne team in 1986 , Schiller moved to the ERC in Mannheim . There he reached the final of the play-offs with the team straight away , which they lost to the Cologne EC. In the three years that followed, he was always defeated with the Mannheimers against his former club, in 1988 in the semi-finals, a year later in the game for third place and in 1990 in the quarter-finals. Even in his last year in Mannheim it was no longer enough for a title, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the play-offs. In 1991 Schiller Eisbären joined Berlin . He played there for two more seasons before retiring from active ice hockey as a sports invalid (spinal disc).

Peter Schiller has played 94 international matches for the national team in his career and has taken part in two Olympic Games and four world championships.
