Petersberg turn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Petersberg Wende (also Petersberg Resolutions ) describes the repositioning of the Social Democratic Party of Germany in asylum and foreign policy in August 1992. It led to the asylum compromise between the Union parties and the SPD and the SPD's approval of Bundeswehr deployments abroad as part of UN peace missions . The Petersberg turning point was initiated by the then party leader Björn Engholm and the later party chairman Oskar Lafontaine . The "Wende" is named after the meeting place of the SPD leaders on the Petersberg near Bonn.
