history

Today's Place Hélène et Victor Basch (also known as Carrefour Alésia ) was the intersection of the old trade routes from Paris to Chartres and Orléans . A small agricultural settlement emerged here, which belonged to the municipality of Montrouge and was called Petit-Montrouge . In 1836 the Abbé Migne, Jacques Paul Migne, founded his publishing house for religious works here. The center of Petit-Montrouge was the Saint Pierre chapel , built in 1838 , which stood in the area between today's Rue Thibaud and Passage Rimbaud . In 1860, Petit-Montrouge was incorporated into the newly created 14th arrondissement of Paris. In the period that followed, the district developed into a workers' residential area, in which smaller craft and trading companies settled. Since the 1960s, the district has been transformed into a preferred residential area for middle-class businesses.
