Petit Courbu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Petit Courbu is an old white grape that is grown in the Sud-Ouest wine-growing region in south-west France . It is in the department Gers , Landes , Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques for commercial viticulture approved, but is rarely used. In 1998 almost 80 hectares of vineyards were raised. In the past it was often confused with the Lauzet grape variety .

The white wines are fine, aromatic and of great quality. The only problem is the low yield of the grape variety.

Clones 813 and 885 are approved for viticulture. A study published in 2007 shows that the grape varieties Courbu , Courbu Noir , Gros Courbu , Lauzet and Petit Courbu are genetically very closely related. The Gros Manseng variety also shows genetically related characteristics.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white, with a carmine-red tinge. The almost red young leaves are spotted bronze (anthocyanin spots)
  • The medium-sized leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are pronounced five-lobed. The stem bay is open in a V-shape. The leaf margin is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set medium-wide compared to other grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and rough.
  • The cone-shaped grape is small to medium-sized and has dense berries. The round berries are small to medium in size. They are whitish-yellow in color when fully ripe.

The Petit Courbu grape variety ripens around 30 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen late for a grape variety internationally. The variety is considered low-yielding.

Synonyms

The Petit Courbu grape variety is also known under the names Courbis, Courbu petit and Vieux Pacherenc.
