Petr Bříza (born December 9, 1964 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey goalkeeper and current - functionary , who won the Czechoslovakian and three Czech championships as a player with HC Sparta Prague . Since 2006 he has been working as General Manager for HC Sparta Prague.
Career
Petr Bříza started his career at Slavia IPS Prague . From 1981 he played for this club in the second Czechoslovak division before moving to TJ Motor České Budějovice in 1983 . There he made his debut in the top division, the 1st division . After two years of play, in which he had completed 35 missions for engine, he was drafted into military service. He did this at the Dukla Jihlava Army Sports Club . During this time he also made his debut in the Czechoslovak national team and completed his first international match in Příbram against the GDR on February 28, 1986 . After his service time he returned to České Budějovice . In 1989 Motor České Budějovice exchanged him for Tomáš Jelínek from Sparta Prague - this was the first major transfer deal in the history of Czechoslovak ice hockey.
With Sparta Prague he won the Czechoslovak championship in 1990 - 36 after the last title for his new club. In 1991 he took advantage of the opening of the borders and went to Rauman Lukko in Finland .
Between 1993 and 1999 he played for EV Landshut in the German Ice Hockey League . He then returned to Sparta Prague and won two more championship titles with these in 2000 and 2002.
With a shootout in the sixth playoff final game against Slavia Prague (final score 3-0), which also meant the championship for Sparta Prague, he ended his career as an active player on April 21, 2006.
Bříza has since worked as General Manager for HC Sparta Prague.
International
Petr Bříza took part with the Czechoslovak and Czech national teams three times in the Olympic Games (Calgary 1988, Albertville 1992 bronze medal, Lillehammer 1994) as well as six world championships. At the 1993 World Cup, he was voted the tournament's best goalkeeper.
