history

Middle Ages and Modern Times

Pfatter was first mentioned in a document on July 15, 773. For centuries, Pfatter was the seat of the ducal court. The Regensburg Cathedral Chapter and several Regensburg monasteries were wealthy in Pfatter until secularization. On the night of December 12th and 13th, 1491, Pfatter and its surroundings were plundered and burned down by the brothers Hieronymus and Bernhardin von Stauf on the orders of Duke Albrecht in the course of the nobility revolt against Duke Albrecht. In 1796 the place is called an " electoral market town in Lower Bavaria ". In 1818 today's political community was established.

20th and 21st centuries

In the past few decades, Pfatter has developed from an agricultural place to a residential community through the designation of building land and investments in the infrastructure . Nevertheless, agriculture is still very important. Important developments in recent years have been the renewal of the village and the participation in the competition " Our village has a future - our village should be more beautiful", in which the district of Gmünd in 1987 and Pfatter in 2003 emerged as district winners and Gmünd with bronze and Pfatter at the state level was awarded the silver medal.

Important goals of the community are currently investments in renewable, environmentally friendly energy, energy-saving technology, the further development of the infrastructure and broadband supply. As part of the intermunicipal cooperation with the city of Wörth, the registry office was transferred to Wörth.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent communities Geisling, Gmünd and Griesau were incorporated into the community Pfatter.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 2,528 to 3,204 by 676 inhabitants or by 26.7%.

Religions

As in the entire Upper Palatinate, the majority of the population in Pfatter is Roman Catholic. The Catholics either belong to the parish of the Assumption of Mary (Pfatter) or to the parish of the Birth of Mary (district Geisling). Both parishes belong to the Donaustauf deanery , which is assigned to the diocese of Regensburg .

coat of arms

Coat of arms of the Pfatter market
Blazon : "Under a silver shield head, inside a blue wave bar, in black three silver turnips with silver leaves."

The coat of arms has been used since 1974.

Justification of the coat of arms: The blue wavy bar is a symbol of the place name, derived from the small river Pfatter , which flows into the Danube nearby. The silver turnips symbolize the intensive cultivation of the well-known Pfatterer turnips in the fertile alluvial land .

Flood polder Eltheim

Flutpolder Eltheim: Upper half of the picture, left the Danube

The planned flood polder "Eltheim" is named after the town of Eltheim . Since the district Geisling the planned, about 590 on the southeastern edge hectares large controlled flooding polder is and is directly affected, the community Pfatter has spoken unanimously and forcefully against its realization. Its retention capacity of around 16 million cubic meters would be used in the event of a very large flood event and relieve the downstream , including Straubing and Deggendorf . The municipality of Pfatter and all municipalities in the surrounding area bordering the Danube have unanimously and emphatically opposed the creation of controlled flood polders planned by the Bavarian state government to mitigate flood levels on the Danube. The district administrator of the district of Regensburg Tanja Schweiger is also skeptical. The groundwater problem that has been known for years, caused by the Danube, and the threat to the drinking water supply of the city of Wörth an der Donau speak clearly against it. A strong protest movement has emerged from farmers and citizens.

On April 11, 2015, the CSU district chairwoman and then Minister of Social Affairs, the former Bavarian State Minister visited D., Emilia Müller visited Kiefenholz, opposite the Danube, to familiarize themselves with the problem of flood polders.

Due to the coalition agreement concluded between the Free Voters and the CSU after the state elections on October 14, 2018 in Bavaria , the flood polder concept is no longer being pursued in the Regensburg district. This was a key demand of the Free Voters. The funds released are to be invested in decentralized flood protection along the Danube and all its inlets.
